|Adding another feather to its cap doctors in the Capital successfully performed a lifesaving heart procedure on 94-year old HS Jolly, resident of Central Delhi area.
On July 5, he became one of the few fortunate nonagenarians who got successful angioplasty done at the age of 94 years at the BLK Super Speciality Hospital. Dr Satbir Singh, Sr Consultant, Cardiology, said, “Cardiac intervention has seen medical advancement in recent years.
New technologies have made it possible to perform complex procedures on patients of any age. The complex heart surgeries have been replaced by new age technology.
Angioplasty has emerged as the safest technique used to widen narrowed arteries or veins in elderly patients as open heart surgeries are often ruled out in such patients considering their age”.
Mr Jolly was admitted to hospital in the last week of June under critical condition.Jolly fell unconscious several times at home, so was rushed to the hospital in the midnight with complains of severe chest pain. Coronary angiogram done on him revealed 100 percent blockage in right coronary artery, added Dr Singh.
He also said that the kind of blockage that he had in the arteries had put him at risk for a complete heart block with which he was unlikely to survive. But, like any other Centre of Excellence we are always pushing the boundaries to provide the best for our patients,” informed Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman & HOD, Cardiology department.
