What does a Wound Treatment Programme consist of?
Patients undergo a thorough clinical examination to identify wound type as well as underlying problems causing the wound. Post examination, a treatment programme is created specifically tailored to the patient’s needs.
Programme may include:
Once a treatment plan is initiated, patients are advised for a regular visit to the hospital. A home care programme is also planned so that patients can properly care for their wounds (in between visits) and protect them from any further complications. Keeping appointments and following directions clearly are critical to attaining a positive healing outcome.
What to expect at the first appointment?
The first appointment consists of a customized, in-depth assessment by the wound care team followed by a review of the patient’s medical history, blood tests or additional tests if needed, and recommendations for treatment. Patients are advised to bring their medical records, insurance card, a list of all the medications they’re taking, along with a list of allergies they may have. They can expect to spend a few hours at the Centre.
Will there be a change of doctors?
Absolutely not! The Wound Healing Centre collaborates with the patient’s primary doctor on all aspects of wound care. During the course of treatment, patients continue to receive routine care from their referring physician.
