Team of Indian health experts arrives in Gambia
Wednesday, September 07, 2016

A team of heart specialists from BLK Hospital, one of the largest tertiary hospitals in India, recently arrived in The Gambia. The team specialises on heart problems such as angioplasty, rotablation, device implantation and congenital heart procedures.

They will be working with the Serrekunda General Hospital in their area of specialisation. Speaking at the Serrekunda General Hospital, Omar Sey, minister of Health and Social Welfare, welcomed the health experts to The Gambia to work with Gambian health experts in the area of heart problem.

He noted that The Gambia government is doing everything possible to bring doctors to the country to treat people instead of sending few people overseas for treatment. Saidu Beyai, chief executive officer of Serrekunda General Hospital, thanked the Health Minister and his team for the efforts they have making to bring the Indian health team to come to The Gambia.

He said the professional relationship between BLK Hospital and Serrekunda General Hospital would go a long way in addressing the healthcare needs of Gambians. Mr Beyai said they are working on strategies of getting the first heart operation lab in The Gambia.

The first brain operation was done at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital; so we want the first heart operation to be done in Serrekunda General Hospital, he said.
