Delhiites! Be cautious of contracting viral infection and water-borne diseases this monsoon season. As monsoon rains bring joy to people, waterlogging simultaneously adds to health woes.

City doctors have alerted people not to let stagnant water remain around their houses as it can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies leading to Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya.

Besides, humid temperature has also increased health aliments for people suffering from respiratory disorders.

Waterlogging around the city increases the risk for water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, viral infection fever, and jaundice. According to the doctors, there is a spurt in the OPD with patients visiting hospitals with the health complications.

Dr SP Byotra, Chairman Internal Medicine at Sir Gangaram Hospital said, People have to be extremely careful about their health these days. Waterlogging can increase people’s health issues. Standard hygiene with nutritious diet is a way to keep healthy these days. Definitely, in the past few days, cases of vomiting and viral infections have gone up.

Meanwhile, the humid weather has also created trouble for people suffering from respiratory complications. Dr Vikas Maurya, Senior Consultant, Pulmonologist BLK Hospital said, The humid weather affects patients who suffer from respiratory disease. For the preventive measure, we are recommending patients to put up flu vaccine to prevent pneumococcal disease, he said.

Doctors are of the view that this time adults contacting chickenpox is a cause of worry. This year, health experts have witnessing early cases of chickenpox. Dr Damanjit Chaddha, Interanl Mecdine at Fortis Vasant Kunj said, In the past two weeks, I have witnessed atleast12-15 cases of chickenpox in adults which earlier never used to come in OPD at the onset of monsoon. Also, the cases of Conjunctivitis, Malaria, Jaundice are also seen among the patients, said the doctor.

Meanwhile, Dr Romel Tikku, senior consultant, internal medicine at Max Hospital, Saket confirmed that cases of chickenpox have increased among adults due to humid weather outside. In this condition, viruses multiple faster and those who have weaker immunity suffers gets contracted to the disease.
