Department of Rheumatology is department added on 12 March 2010 at this Super Speciality Hospital. It has introduced the concept of single window clearance, first time in India in the field of Rheumatology, for all the patients suffering with Rheumatological (or rheumatism), and Musculoskeletal disorders including Gathiya Bai or Arthritis, low backache arthritis by introducing innovative, scientific and guided rheumatologic interventional techniques in therapeutic armamentarium against these crippling disorders. These have already been proved to be of great help to the patients.
So far, in Rheumatology, main emphasis has been to manage autoimmune inflammatory disorders like Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic lupus erythematosus, Ankylosing spondylitis, Dermatomyositis, Sjogren’s syndrome, Progressive systemic sclerosis etc. Management is according to international guidelines. Osteoarthritis & other diseases leading to chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia are managed too although so much can be done in so many ways. It is not surprising that only minor fraction of population with lot of means might be getting the benefit but large number of our population is suffering from these crippling diseases. At our hospital, new dimension has been added in the field of rheumatology with addition of minimally an invasive interventional procedure which has revolutionized safe evidence based medical treatment options by using image guidance.
Mission of the Department is “the World without arthritis & pain” and the motto is “joints are forever, save them at any cost”. Patient’s interest is paramount.
Department functions through OPD, Rheumatic interventional, & indoor facilities. We utilize various imaging equipment’s for diagnostic & guidance purpose such as Ultrasonography, nailfold capillaroscopy, birefringent polarising microscope & other sophisticated equipment’s in addition to various immunological tests, solely for the purpose of giving optimized benefit.
